A Solar Return chart is the chart cast for the exact moment the Sun returns to the same zodiac degree, minute and second it occupied at your birth — i.e. your astrological birthday, not just the calendar date. The chart is calculated for your current location and gives a snapshot of the year between two solar returns.
How is it calculated?
Swiss Ephemeris finds the precise moment the transiting Sun reaches the natal Sun's longitude (to the arc-second). NatalChart.AI computes a full chart for that moment using your current location, including new houses, new angles and new aspects valid for the coming year.
Why does location matter?
The Solar Return Sun is in the same place in the zodiac, but the houses and angles are recomputed for wherever you are when the return occurs. Spending the return in a different location produces a different Solar Return chart. Many astrologers travel deliberately to shift the year's emphasis.
