Sky Events and Your Birth Chart

The same sky event can be explored in two ways: as an event with a date and time, and as part of a personal astrological reading.

Swiss Ephemeris Web and iOS Current event reading free

Start with the event itself. Then, where a personal calculation is available, inspect the chart factors used in its interpretation.

An eclipse’s visibility from a place is a different question from its relationship to a natal chart. A personal reading should not be used as a visibility forecast.

What the Sky section shows

The Sky section lists the current event and the upcoming ones: new and full moons, solar and lunar eclipses, retrograde windows, and the equinoxes and solstices. Each event has an exact moment, calculated with Swiss Ephemeris from the geocentric positions and shown in your device’s local time. A full moon is labelled a supermoon when the Moon is within about 360,000 km of Earth at that moment; that is the cutoff the product uses, and other sources define the term differently.

For each event the product also shows its place in your chart: the natal house the event’s degree falls in and arrows for the life spheres it points to. The arrows come from that house and from the aspects between the event degree and your natal planets, so the reading of the event cannot contradict them. On the web the section is the Sky item in the sidebar; the iOS app has the same section.

How an event lands in a chart

The event degree is checked against the twelve house cusps of the natal chart, which is why the same eclipse touches a different house in every chart. Illustrative only, not a dated event: if a lunar eclipse fell at 15°00′ Aries, the product would place it in the demonstration chart’s house 2, between the cusp at 13°45′ Aries and the next at 18°03′ Taurus. The reading would then name that house, the spheres it points to and any aspect from the eclipse degree to a natal planet within the event orbs.

Demonstration birth: 1991-09-06 at 18:30 local time, Kyiv, Ukraine (50.4501° N, 30.5234° E), Europe/Kyiv at UTC+3, so 1991-09-06 15:30 UTC. Tropical zodiac, Placidus houses, Swiss Ephemeris 2.10.03. Full result and settings on How to verify your birth chart.

If no strong contact is found under the method being used, that is a useful result too: the event is still shown with its time, and the personal part says that it passes the chart without a close contact.

The house depends on the birth time and place. With an uncertain time the house, and everything built on it, is uncertain as well; see how to find your birth time.

How to use it

Choose one event to explore, check its timing and follow the factors behind the explanation. Read the house and the aspects before the text, and treat the text as an explanation of those factors rather than a forecast of what will happen.

Questions

Will I see the eclipse from my city?

NatalChart.AI does not answer that. Visibility depends on where you are, the horizon and the weather, and it is a separate question from the event’s place in your chart. Use an astronomy source for visibility.

Why does an event show a house for me but a different one for a friend?

The houses come from each person’s birth time and place, so the same event degree falls in different houses in different charts. With an uncertain birth time the house is uncertain too.

Are readings of future events free?

The reading of the current event is free for everyone. Readings of future events are part of Premium. The events themselves, with their dates and times, are visible to everyone.
